Black Professionals

At Deloitte, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEI&A) are fundamental to our strategy—we believe in fairness, respect, and empowerment for everyone. Our culture is rooted in a people-first approach, encouraging our teams to be authentic and reach their full potential.

Black Action Council

Deloitte is committed to supporting Black lives and eradicating anti-Black racism. Since signing the BlackNorth Initiative Pledge, which aims to address systemic racism, we formed a Black Action Council (BAC) to foster an inclusive, safe, and equitable workplace for Black people within our firm.

The BAC is co-chaired by our CEO, Anthony Viel and Organization Transformation leader, Patrice Njoh. It includes senior executive leaders, along with Canadian Black Professional Network leaders, members, and allies.

Canadian Black Professional Network (CBPN)

The CBPN aims to create an inclusive, firm-wide community dedicated to advancing Black Professionals through education, and meaningful connections. They collaborate with other Deloitte communities to build better solutions and powerful outcomes for Black people, our firm, our clients, and the broader community. They also drive conversations on anti-racism and develop our thought leadership series, titled Black in Canada

Black in Canada: acknowledging our past, owning our present, and changing our future.

Our Black in Canada series features thought leadership, research and tools for removing systemic barriers and embedding anti-racism in our behaviours and systems.

First edition: A comprehensive study and journey map that illuminates the experiences and challenges faced by Black professionals in the Canadian workplace. It provides insights into the systemic barriers and recommendations for creating more inclusive and equitable work environments.

Second edition: This version explores representation, leadership, advancement opportunities, and workplace experiences for Black professionals. It highlights the underrepresentation of the group in senior leadership positions and the disparities in career progression compared to their non-Black counterparts. It also examines the impact of bias, discrimination, and microaggressions on Black professionals' experiences at work.

Third edition: We featured inspiring stories of Black excellence, including a fireside chat with Canadian Olympian Andre de Grasse, moderated by Deloitte Canada’s CEO, Anthony Viel.
Fourth edition: This installment investigates the complex impact of generative AI on Black professionals, their communities, and all equity-seeking groups. It underscores the importance of diversity in the development and deployment of generative AI solutions. You can read more about it here

Mentorship and education

Deloitte’s scholarship programs such as Bloom, are designed to support young Black talent in the early stages of their careers. To date, over 80 recipients have participated in the program. Additionally, our cross-business mentorship program fosters deep, lasting mentor-mentee relationships between Black practitioners and leaders helping them achieve their career aspirations.

Investment

We recently launched our Black-owned and operated supplier portal, which has enabled us to increase our targeted procurement spending by 23 times compared to the previous year.

Our corporate donations program commits 3% of funds to supporting NPOs and charities that support Black communities, reinforcing our commitment to a truly inclusive Canada and fulfilling our BlackNorth pledge.

Beyond market activities, we have invested our own time and resources in pro-bono support, including $125,000 in pro-bono engagements to Black-owned organizations and other initiatives. This fiscal year, we will also be donating $235,000 to Black-focused charities.

By focusing on these activities, Deloitte is committed to driving meaningful change and fostering an inclusive environment for Black professionals and communities.
