User Research, Senior Manager

We're searching for a teammate with a proven passion for UX Research. The User Research Team Senior Manager performs a hybrid individual contributor / manager role. As an individual contributor, they manage user research for some of our most complex and high-profile projects. As a Senior Manager, they ensure high-performing, happy, direct reports, advance TWG’s organizational research maturity, and efficiently operate & grow the team, currently a team of five (5) researchers. 
You’ll collaborate with product managers, engineers and your Experienced Design teammates to create effective experiences for our clients and their users. 
 

About the Job

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Talent Acceleration: Managing a team of 5+ reports, and various contractors, with emphasis on: regular 1:1s, performance management, professional development, output quality oversight
  • Project Leadership: Leading user research strategy, execution, reporting and client-facing research touchpoints on key studio accounts. Experiences with leading mixed-method research within a multidisciplinary project team 
  • Business development support and increased UR client account. Join client-facing meetings and workshops during key points of a project, leading UR presentations to help define, influence and represent UR strategy, quality and execution. A champion and evangelize UXR to clients and strengthen our UX Research culture. 
  • Team Operations: Scale User Research capacity and operations, ensuring the Research Ops and the team operates as efficiently as possible, overseeing: team rituals, tool administration, studio-facing services, team finances, HR documentation, project estimation, resource allocation
  • Team Development: Setting team vision in partnership with VP, Experience Design, owning the team roadmap, resource forecasting, participating in hiring, supporting non-production teams (Marketing, Business Development and Solution Engineering) on initiatives that translate to more high-value work for the studio
  • Practice Standards: Ensuring a consistent yet evolving practice within the user research team, capacity-building for better user research by adjacent production teams, catalyzing studio-wide research process improvement
     

Must Haves

  • At least 4+ years of UX research experience with consumer-facing products 
  • At least 3+ years managing multiple researchers 
  • Experienced in scoping/planning out complex research projects - selecting the right approaches for the right job
  • Experience navigating process and strategy in product design and web application development
  • Work that demonstrates a strong understanding of user-centered design and design thinking
  • Excellent communication skills with the capacity to create alignment across multiple teams, design, product and engineering. 
  • Strong knowledge of various research methods, mixed-method research, A/B testing and agile development practices
