What will your typical day look like?

 

We are looking for ambitious and inspiring leaders to imagine and bring to life future products, services, and experiences – working across the design process and stretching our discipline with new ways of thinking and working. Ultimately, you will help build alliances between our team, our clients, and the customers and citizens we seek to serve.

 

As a Service Design Manager, you will be integral to leading our multi-disciplinary teams made up of designers, strategists, and technologists to help our clients identify opportunities and bring innovative solutions to market. If you are passionate about applying design methods in new ways to respond to human needs and business priorities to shape desirable, feasible, and viable solutions, keep reading. 

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Leading the synthesis of multiple work streams into a coherent and powerful narrative about the future, often within a digital context
  • Directing and producing tangible outputs at different stages of the design process (e.g., service design blueprints, user stories, systems design, low-fi prototypes, etc.)
  • Applying interdisciplinary thinking to ground all ideas in research insights, business needs, and design constraints and stretch the ambition of our teams and our clients
  • Working side-by-side with account team leaders to discuss and implement changes to project and account dynamics and strategy, and to identify new business opportunities 
  • Designing and co-facilitate engaging workshops with internal teams, clients, and other stakeholders
  • Organizing all aspects of the design process, including field research, business model design, and launching and scaling solutions in-market
  • Building connections and collaborating with a diverse team of experts, including from Deloitte’s global network of industry and domain experts, to amplify the impact of your work
  • Contributing significantly to the development of client pitches and intellectual property, including new design methods and thought leadership
  • Scoping and writing proposals for new client engagements, pulling in the bests of Doblin and Deloitte resources
  • Developing as a leader within a like-minded community of designers, local and global, with incredible opportunities for mentorship and career growth

Doblin is a pioneer in bringing design methods to the practice of business and innovation. We recognize that Service Designers are vital to the impact we create for our clients. We are especially interested in hearing from experienced designers with a background in product design, visual communication design, service design, or other design roles that involve designing solutions shaped by empathy for participants. Enough about us, let’s talk about you

 

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate these characteristics:

 

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant design experience, preferably in agency or consultancy
  • Graduate or equivalent experience in a design-related field
  • A portfolio demonstrating your work in application (e.g., visuals, case studies, prototypes, etc.)
  • Expertise in managing the ambiguity of working in and defining unknown spaces, and guiding design work through to original and powerful outcomes
  • The practiced ability to link the design process and its outcomes to the larger strategy of the organization, linking the design work to other streams of work, and to the overall organizational model / business case
  • A cognizance of the importance of inclusion and equity in the design process and a commitment and advocate for it within teams and with non-designer colleagues
  • Strong written and spoken communication skill that elevate the impact of our teams to our clients, and our work to their business
  • Confidence in using of a range of design tools for prototyping and visual communication: Adobe Suite, Sketch, Figma, Microsoft PowerPoint, etc.
  • For Ottawa: Be eligible for or possess Enhanced Reliability security clearace with Government of Canada
  • French language skills (written and spoken) an asset
