As a member of our Toronto Financial Advisory team, you’ll help leading litigation lawyers and the courts make sense of financial damages in intellectual property infringement disputes. Using your deep technical skills and benefitting from our global network of experts in varied disciplines from data analytics to health care reimbursement reform, you’ll provide financial opinions in complex intellectual property disputes. As a Manager you will: 

 

  • Advise clients engaged in disputes over intellectual property infringement and application of Section 8 of the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations, involving possible damages, such as lost profits on lost sales, price erosion, unjust enrichment, and lost business value
  • Provide financial insight at each stage of the engagement, from case theory development and discovery to expert witness testimony
  • Assist with financial analysis regarding initial assessment of the claims being made to determine reasonableness, strengths and weaknesses of an opponent’s damages position, settlement offers, and cost/benefit analysis of case strategy alternatives
  • Perform market and competitive analysis, cost determinations, lost-profit analyses, economic studies, and statistical analyses
  • Prepare expert reports as well as rebuttal/critique reports, and assist the testifying expert prepare for the provision of testimony
  • Employ a structured approach to project management to ensure complete client satisfaction and project profitability
  • Repurpose Deloitte points of view on life sciences and health care issues for the intellectual property litigation community, and write other eminence-building articles for a legal audience
  • Contribute to practice growth and development
  • Participate in the development and delivery of training programs

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree with outstanding academic credentials
  • Completion of the Chartered Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Business Valuators (CBV) designations, or equivalent, required
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience, including intellectual property infringement cases, and cases under Section 8 of the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations
  • Strong commitment to meticulous financial analysis, and client service excellence
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Experienced with project problem diagnosis, creative solution development, client communications, facilitation of decision making, documentation, and managing client expectations
  • Minimum travel required
