Quality is an essential business enabler and driving continuous improvement is fundamental to our Audit & Assurance transformation objectives. As such, it is important to ensure that a robust System of Quality Control (SQC) is in place across the Deloitte organization – the consistent execution of high quality audits has never been more important. For that reason, the Continuous Improvement Group (CIG) was established to provide independent, objective oversight activities to the Audit Leadership, Canadian Audit Quality Board (CAQB), and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL). The main objective is to provide an evaluation of:

  • Adherence to professional standards and applicable legal and regulatory requirements
  • Whether the SQC has been appropriately designed, implemented, and is operating effectively, and
  • Whether the member firm’s quality control policies and procedures are operating effectively, so that reports that are issued by the member firm or member firm partners are appropriate in the circumstances.

Responsibilities of the Senior Manager in Continuous Improvement Group include:

  • Developing monitoring scope and annual plan based on the annual risk assessment performed using Audit Quality Risk Universe
  • Developing and executing monitoring activities, including evaluating the design, determining the implementation and testing of controls to assess the operating effectiveness of quality control policies, procedures, and programs
  • Working directly with audit leadership across Canada to gain an understanding of and solicit feedback on the design and implementation, and operating effectiveness of quality control procedures and programs
  • Delivering findings and recommendations to program owners and obtain program owner’s responses and action plans to identify opportunities for enhancements in order to advance audit quality
  • Assisting with documentation of SQC processes using risk and control matrices, narratives and process flow diagrams, with specific focus on the areas that align with the Deloitte Conditions for Success
  • Preparing presentations and reports for various audit stakeholders, leaders, and external regulators
  • Adhoc assistance in supporting various audit quality and monitoring initiatives

External Posting Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a high performing auditor and problem solver, able to work independently in a team. You will have an interest in the technical, regulatory and legal aspects of auditing combined with a practical approach. You will have a solid understanding of the audit business environment and enjoy interacting with lots of people at all different levels across Deloitte on a daily basis.

You should have practical experience in the audit practice, hold a professional certificate or be recognized as having the appropriate skills in auditing at the Senior Manager level. 

Additional desirable experience includes:

  • Completed undergraduate degree
  • Must have CPA designation or equivalency
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong understanding of Deloitte audit policies, processes and programs
  • Strong technical skills in understanding and testing internal controls
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to deliver the full cycle of project management accountabilities
  • Experienced with project problem diagnosis, solution development, facilitation of decision making, documentation, managing leadership expectations, and team leadership
