Our Canadian Actuarial, Rewards and Analytics (ARA) team is part of Deloitte’s worldwide actuarial network, which includes over 1000 actuarial professionals working in 43 countries. ARA is part of Deloitte’s Assurance & Advisory practice and provides a wide range of services to clients in the financial industry. Deloitte Toronto’s ARA practice is currently searching for dynamic/versatile individuals to join our Assurance team.

As the R Programming Expert, you will be responsible for:

  • Acting as an R subject matter expert, providing mentorship, support and training
  • Contributing to coding, testing and implementation of initiatives for internal and client projects. The focus of these initiatives will be in the areas of statistical analysis, analytics, and visualization/EDA
  • Developing robust analytical models such as GLM, decision tree, random forest
  • Producing documentation according to quality and design standards, including well-documented code
  • Troubleshooting and fixing technical issues and providing timely responses
  • Supporting practice leaders by developing analytics solutions on a wide range of consulting projects
  • Contributing and supporting new business sales initiatives, including proposals and preparing client presentations

External Posting Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science or equivalent industry experience
  • 3+ years of experience coding in R in the context of data manipulation, data cleansing, visualization and statistical analysis
  • Good understanding of emerging technologies and desire to learn a new software language
  • Knowledge of MS Visio will be considered an asset
  • Experience working in RStudio
  • Knowledge of basic R data structures such as vectors, data frames, tibbles, and lists is essential
  • Experience with the following R packages is considered essential: dplyr, ggplot2, purrr, readr, readxl
  • Experience with the following R packages is considered an asset: data.table, stringr, caret, plotly, shiny, rmarkdown, roxygen2
  • Experience with Git,  machine learning, database best practices (including experience working in database administration systems), and understanding of big data concepts will all be considered as assets
  • Ability to understand business requirements & develop models
  • Ability to work within a team structure and deliver high-quality work under time constraints whilst at the same time being capable of leading individual work
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills. Ability to discuss and present technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Detail-oriented and exceptional organizational and time management skills, together with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong problem solving, process improvement and innovative thinking skills
