Deloitte is looking for an Economic Policy Specialist to join the Future of Canada Centre (FCC) and our Economic Advisory group to develop high impact thought leadership on economic issues.

The FCC is Deloitte’s thought leadership and public policy hub. The Centre conduct original research and publish reports, articles, and papers under the firm’s flagship initiative, Canada at 175, on a broad spectrum of topics of interest to our firm, our clients, and our country. Deloitte Economic Advisory works closely with our industry leaders across Canada and the globe in order to apply economic thinking and commercial acumen to everyday business problems. As an Economic Policy Specialist, you will be part of a cross-functional team working with the FCC and Deloitte Economic Advisory to develop and deliver insights for the firm, based on research focused on growth and competitiveness issues. This could include:

  • Supporting the Program Manager in developing a research and policy agenda for the FCC, focused on Canada’s productivity and competitiveness
  • Supporting the Public Policy Lead in identifying firm public policy priorities, shaping policy positions, and developing and implementing strategies to ensure Deloitte is a leading voice on economic policy issues that matter to our business and our clients
  • Tracking and analyze public policy trends and their relevant business implications in order to identify issues / opportunities for the firm, and produce policy briefs and positions for senior leadership
  • Helping senior leadership and the research team in developing a bold point of view on economic issues from a policy perspective
  • Supporting and delivering on ad-hoc research and analysis requests as required

 

External Posting Qualifications 

  • A Master’s degree, preferably in economics or another relevant field, as well as 4-5 years of relevant work experience in policy development, analysis, or economics
  • An exemplary record of academic and extracurricular achievement
  • Proven superior research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including quantitative skills
  • Highly organized and detail-focused, able to synthesize information in a clear and concise way
  • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team
  • Comfortable working in an ambiguous environment with competing deadlines and rapidly evolving needs and conditions
  • Growth mindset
  • Strong technical proficiency in MS Office applications; specifically PowerPoint, Excel and Word, as well as statistics modelling tools
  • Experience in an economic government ministry/department or international governmental organization an asset
  • French language skills an asset
