We’re seeking a versatile copywriter who is both a storyteller and strategic problem-solver to join our growing in-house agency team. You are a words-first person, but can also see how it works to power visuals in the bigger picture. You can take business challenges and turn them into brilliant headlines and copy. A journalist at heart, you know what messages to pull out and where to look for the story that will inspire our audiences. 

You’ll be part of our editorial team, but you’ll also collaborate closely with art directors as well as the public relations team to deliver exceptional copy for a variety of channels, from headlines, positioning blurbs, and social media to emails, taglines, and video scripts. 

This role requires a talent for distilling complex ideas into clear and compelling on-brand copy that meets business objectives and creates messages that stand out in the marketplace. It also demands an ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously, and an aptitude for working with colleagues and subject matter experts across the firm’s many business lines and industries throughout Canada.

  • Transform complex and/or abstract ideas into clear and engaging copy.
  • Create and edit compelling marketing copy, adapting it for different target audiences and content formats, including articles, webpages, emails, brochures, social media messages, advertising, infographics, videos, podcasts, digital banner ads, etc.
  • Write headlines, messages, taglines, and scripts that catch the attention of target audiences and ladders up to marketing objectives.
  • Create op-eds in conjunction with the PR team.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Marketing, Creative, and PR and with subject matter experts to ensure messaging aligns with business objectives and brand strategy, and that content is delivered through optimum channels to maximize impact.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions with agency teams to develop content and creative strategies. 
  • Seek unexplored angles and perspectives.
  • Edit (copyedit and proofread) content for proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage, ensuring consistency, on-brand messaging, best practices, and Deloitte style.
  • Deliver content in an authentic Deloitte voice, which differentiates us in the marketplace.
  • Other tasks as required.
External Posting Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, public relations, communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three years of editorial experience in communications, media relations, journalism, or a related field. Experience in a media, professional services, or business-to-business environment is an asset. 
  • Media-agnostic: ability to quickly develop targeted copy for use online, in print, and for social media and video.
  • Strong English writing skills, with a proven track record in writing for a variety of audiences and channels. 
  • Strong English editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and initiative to fact check when necessary.
  • French and/or Spanish speaking and writing capabilities are an asset.
  • An understanding of SEO in copy. 
  • Ability to quickly grasp and apply the essentials of the Deloitte Voice, our language style and brand guidelines; a working knowledge of Canadian Press Style is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with an ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced, matrix environment.
  • Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Curious, adaptable, and keen to collaborate with and contribute to a creative team.
  • Natural and keen interest in society and industry trends.
  • Experience with strategic brainstorming, campaign development, and creative execution is an asset.
  •  Writing samples will be requested as part of the interview process.
