What will your typical day look like?

This role will support our team and act as a trusted advisor for our client’s most important modelling and analytics decisions. During your typical day you will work directly with the client from the largest to the smallest financial services companies to help them design, develop and transform their modelling practices and risk management functions. This will likely involve, but is not limited to, the following activities:

  • Evolve management capabilities from a fragmented, ad-hoc and reactive process to an integrated, systematic, and enterprise-wide approach to effectively identify, quantify, assess and manage risk exposure
  • Design, implementation, and improvement of infrastructure solutions and frameworks in the areas of risk analytics, risk measurement, risk reporting, and risk data management to help companies manage their model related risk
  • Review and create model risk management policies, guidelines and playbooks
  • Review, create and update model documentation and validation report templates
  • Create, update, review and manage our client’s model inventory and create reporting templates for model governance reports
  • Perform GAP assessment to review existing MRM capabilities and identify any gaps between existing capabilities and industry best practices
  • Conduct quality control reviews to ensure there are proper controls in place

The Financial Engineering & Modelling, Financial Advisory team is composed of a wide range of subject matter experts from Quantitative Finance backgrounds working with all manner of modeling types. We have the leading quantitative practice in the Canadian market and cover models including market risk, credit risk, fraud, AML, insurance, treasury and machine learning. Our team members have advanced degrees in mathematics, financial engineering, statistics, physics and actuarial science. The Governance team focuses on helping organizations leverage quantitative talent to achieve better results.

Working with this team will offer you the opportunity to:

  • Work in a fast-paced, collaborative team focused on delivering comprehensive solutions which include analyzing client strategic issues, performing research, conducting workshops, developing and communicating solutions, implementing process and technology solutions, etc.
  • Communicating with senior clients, managing engagement budgets and coaching junior staff
  • Contributing to the practice development activities including proposals, industry presentations, recruitment, training, roundtables and publications
  • Exposure to high-profile clients including banks, insurance firms, funds, credit unions through a variety of engagements to develop advanced professional and consultative skills needed to advance in your chosen career path

Enough about us, let’s talk about you

You are someone who is/has:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field such as business, economics, computer science, engineering, statistics, or mathematics
  • 3-5 years of experience working in Financial Services strategy or governance, as well as risk management
  • Very strong communication skills, both verbal and written, that allow you to adapt to a variety of clients and industries including communicating complex concepts and business considerations to appropriate stakeholders (such as senior management, business and technical stakeholders)
  • Ability to work under tight timelines, independently and in cross-functional team settings
  • Proven ability to work in unstructured environments including the ability to develop and present new ideas as well as conceptualize new approaches and solutions
  • Entrepreneurial and client focused attitude
  • Ability to program in languages such python would be beneficial but are not required.
