Are you an experienced Public Relations professional who is looking for an opportunity to help shape the PR strategy at the #1 professional services brand in Canada? Then come and join our team! This is a key role on our Public Relations team that requires a distinct mix of skills and experience.
What will your typical day look like?
As the Issues Management Communications Manager, you will be an integral member of a high-performing Public Relations team that works across various business areas and industries nationwide to bring compelling content and business insights to different audiences while also executing best practices in brand reputational management.
You will be responsible for protecting Deloitte’s brand and reputation through both proactive and reactive issues management best practices, including media sensing and monitoring, issues tracking, messaging and content development, media relations and stakeholder relations.
The development and execution of comprehensive public relations strategies and tactics, including proactive media relations, media training, external materials development and impact reporting. Further, you will specialize in
Key responsibilities include:
- Vetting and assessing external firm engagements, including media interviews and speaking opportunities, through a risk management and reputational impact lens, providing clear recommendations on engagement, positioning, and mitigation as needed
- Proactively monitoring, tracking, and analyzing potential brand and reputational issues across traditional and digital media, identifying emerging risks, trends, and potential escalation points
- Reactively managing sensitive media inquiries and emerging issues, including drafting external media materials, preparing issues updates and reporting for executive leadership, and facilitating timely internal reviews and approvals
- During active or escalating issue moments, providing ongoing and timely media coverage assessment and reporting, including concise executive summaries
- Working closely with Internal Communications to align external issues management with internal firm and stakeholder communications, ensuring message consistency and coordination
- Collaborating with the Brand team on brand risk tracking efforts, contributing insights informed by media dynamics, public perception, and reputational context
- During periods of lower issues activity, lead or support special corporate communications initiatives that advance firm and leadership eminence, while remaining ready to pivot quickly in response to emerging issues
About the team
Part of the Marketing department, the PR team is an integral part of the Brand, Content and PR team. Beyond Marketing, the team works closely with executives and partners across the firm to achieve their goals and provide counsel when interacting with Canadian media. The Marketing team is spread across the country, with PR team members located in Toronto, Waterloo, Ottawa and Montreal. The Issues Management Communications Manager is a distinct role on the team and reports directly to the Head of Public Relations.

You are someone with these required skills:
- Demonstrated experience leading communications issues management, including issue identification, assessment, response strategy, and ongoing mitigation in complex or high-profile environments
- Strong understanding of the Canadian media landscape, with established relationships with journalists and the ability to anticipate media dynamics during sensitive or high-risk situations
- Experience supporting crisis communications strategy, including scenario planning, message development, executive briefings, and rapid response
- Strong experience using market sensing and media/social media monitoring tools to identify emerging issues, assess reputational risk, and deliver clear, actionable analysis to senior and executive audiences
- Proven ability to assess and prioritize reputational risk across business lines, stakeholder groups, and external audiences
- Demonstrated ability to provide clear, confident communications counsel to senior leaders during sensitive, complex, or ambiguous situations
- Experience preparing executives for media and stakeholder engagements related to issues, including key messages, Q&A, and message discipline
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across Legal, Risk, Marketing and Business teams
- Superior business writing skills, with the ability to translate complex or technical issues into clear, compelling, and accessible messaging; experience producing materials such as media lines, key messages, speaking points, briefing notes, and press releases
- Proven sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential, sensitive, or time-critical information
It would be great for you to have some of these nice to have’s as well:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, or integrated communications roles; experience in a PR agency, professional services firm, or complex matrix organization with multiple business lines and stakeholders is an asset
- A Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field, or a post-graduate qualification in Public Relations / Corporate Communications
- Experience working in a regulated or highly scrutinized environment is an asset
- Fluency in French is not required, but is considered a strong asset
Total Rewards
The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $156,000, and individuals may be eligible to participate in our bonus program.
