Our Purpose

At Deloitte, we are driven to inspire and help our people, organization, communities, and country to thrive. Our Purpose is to build a better future by accelerating and expanding access to knowledge. Purpose defines who we are and gives us reason to exist as an organization.

By living our Purpose, we will make an impact that matters.

What will your typical day look like?

As a Public Relations co-op/intern within Deloitte’s Agency, you will be an integral member of a high-performing team of communications professionals. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Public Relations in Toronto, you will work with the team to help build and maintain relationships with business and industry media to help promote Deloitte’s brand and shared values in the market. Your day will never be the same – but it may include research and development of background media materials, writing a media pitch, facilitating a media interview opportunity for a spokesperson, building a media list, and/or monitoring and measuring the impact of Deloitte’s public relations campaigns.

About the team

Deloitte’s national Public Relations team is small but makes a massive impact! Team members work across business areas, industries, and borders to bring compelling content and business insights to our clients and beyond. The team proactively identifies opportunities for the firm’s Canadian leaders to take part in the conversations that matter to our clients, communities and country. The Public Relations team is responsible for the development and execution of PR campaigns to support national marketing programs, brand initiatives, and thought leadership campaigns – and they are tasked with protecting the integrity of the Deloitte brand and reputation through issues management, stakeholder communications, and collaborative conversations.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you

You are someone who is:

  • Enrolled at a post-secondary institution with a focus on journalism, communications, public affairs, or public/media relations

  • A grasp on current events, business news, public policy and Canadian politics – and perhaps a penchant for consuming traditional news and social media chatter on a regular basis

  • A passion for creative and business writing, with the ability to turn technical jargon into easily consumable soundbites; interest in writing media materials (media pitches, key messages, FAQs, press releases, etc.)

  • Comfortable working in Microsoft Office using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Successful performance as part of team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment (a good sense of humor is also a great asset to have – the team likes to laugh a lot)

Our shared values

While our Purpose guides us and helps explain why we exist, our shared values describe the behaviour we expect from each other at the firm.

They provide common ground to unite us across cultures and geographies. They help us to earn the trust and respect of our stakeholders. We all commit to living by these shared values, to stay true to the principles they represent, and to honour the legacy from which they came. They are what sets us apart and makes us Deloitte.

Every day, we live our Purpose through the following five shared values:

  • Lead the way: Deloitte is not only leading the profession, but reinventing it for the future. We’re also committed to creating opportunity and leading the way to a more sustainable world.

  • Serve with integrity: Deloitte has earned the trust of employees, clients, regulators, and the public for 175 years. Upholding that trust is our single most important responsibility.

  • Take care of each other: We look out for one another and prioritize respect, fairness, development, and well-being.

  • Foster inclusion: We are at our best when we foster an inclusive culture and embrace diversity in all forms. We know this attracts top talent, enables innovation, and helps us deliver well-rounded client solutions.

  • Collaborate for measurable impact: We approach our work with a collaborative mind¬set, teaming across businesses, geographies, and skill sets to deliver tangible, measurable, attributable impact.
