Our Canadian Actuarial, Rewards and Analytics (ARA) team is part of Deloitte’s worldwide actuarial network, which includes over 1000 actuarial professionals working in 43 countries. ARA is part of Deloitte’s Assurance & Advisory practice and provides a wide range of services. Deloitte Toronto’s ARA practice is currently searching for dynamic/versatile individuals to join our Life Advisory team.

As a Senior Consultant Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for:

·        Supporting practice leaders by delivering Life work on a wide range of consulting projects within actuarial, underwriting / claims and advanced analytics domains

·        Contribute and support new business sales initiatives, including new business proposals, from planning to client presentations

·        Assisting in developing Life market offerings by contributing with innovative approaches to existing (intra-) Firm initiatives

·        Supporting actuarial audit engagements, with the objective of introducing new technologies such as Robotics Process Automation (RPA) to drive efficiency Staying abreast of technical Life industry developments like LICAT, DCAT, ORSA, etc. as well as broader industry developments in the fields such as InsurTech, Advanced Analytics, Robotics Process Automation (RPA), Blockchain and IFRS 17

·        Coaching and developing junior staff, in particular Consultants and Analysts

External Posting Qualifications

·        A Masters / Bachelor’s degree from a leading University in the fields Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science or Data Science

·        Good progress towards your actuarial Fellowship and ideally near attainment of your ASA/ACIA designation

·        Range of 5 to 7 years Life working experience in a dynamic industry environment / department within an insurance company, reinsurer, insurance broker or accounting / consulting firm

·        Proficiency / mastery within at least two of the following “traditional” actuarial disciplines:  pricing, reserving, capital management or analytics

·        Ability to work within a team structure and deliver high-quality work under time constraints whilst at the same time being capable of leading individual work

·        Proficiency in Excel and other applications in the Microsoft office suite

·        Proficiency in one of these software packages: AXIS, PathWise, ATLAS or MATLAB

·        Programming skills (Visual Basic, R, Python, etc.) and visualization tools like Tableau an asset. Alternatively, willingness to learn as required by business needs

·        Strong written, verbal and presentation skills. Ability to discuss and present technical concepts to a non-technical audience

·        Detail-oriented and exceptional organizational and time management skills, together with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities

·        An inquisitive, positive mindset topped with a relentless drive to move things ahead

·        When required by business needs, a sense of commitment, ownership and urgency

·        When required by business needs, willingness to travel within Canada and abroad to support client engagements

·        Overseas working experience, French and/ or Spanish a plus
