What will your typical day look like?
As a First Nations Community Liaison (‘Liaison’) on Deloitte's Indigenous Support Services Team, you will work alongside Ontario First Nations leaders and be responsible for supporting them in the class action administration space. While your work will vary, you will primarily be responsible for the Ontario region in Canada and will work with the Liaison Manager to develop and implement an outreach and communication workplan in collaboration with First Nations in your region.
As an independent contractor your tasks will include:
- Liaise with Ontario First Nations communities, regional organizations, the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) and regional political leaders to provide them with a clear understanding and support of the Settlement Agreement and its implications for their community.
- Develop and implement a region-specific outreach and communication workplan.
- Attend meetings in First Nations communities and urban settings to provide information about the claims process, available claims helper supports, and answer any questions or concerns.
- Provide advice during the creation of communication and outreach materials to ensure effective communication with Ontario First Nations leaders, community members, and others.
- Build and maintain relationships with Ontario First Nations leaders, First Nations organizations, community members, and others as appropriate to facilitate mutually respectful working relationships and effective communication.
- Develop and submit reports for expense, time, and activity tracking to ensure accountability and transparency.
- Track pertinent information collected from First Nations communities, regional organizations, the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) and regional political leaders and present them to the Deloitte team to inform decision-making.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you
You are someone with most of these qualities:
- 5+ years of experience relevant to this role, including working with and supporting First Nations communities and organizations and understanding of Indigenous knowledge systems, beliefs and practices.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Political acuity and an understanding of Canada’s history and relationship with First Nations.
- Experience working with leaders and partners in First Nations environments.
- Excellent time-management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- An ability to build trust and maintain confidential information.
- Experience developing and implementing strategies, including outreach and communication plans.
- Proven experience in public speaking and delivering engaging presentations to diverse audiences, with strong storytelling, visual communication, and Q&A facilitation skills.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Up to 60% Canadian travel required (to be reimbursed), including air and car travel. This may include overnight travel.
- Ability to navigate difficult conversations and manage trauma-informed discussions
It would be beneficial if you had any of the following qualities:
- Additional knowledge of project management tools and processes.
- Self-identify as First Nations in Canada.
- Experience working on First Nations class action lawsuits.
- Knowledge of French and Indigenous language(s).
