What will your typical day look like?

You will be responsible for conducting impartial investigations of complaints of employee misconduct, including for example, allegations of discrimination and harassment.

Project work will vary but tasks will include:

  • Analyzing the allegations of the complaint and researching applicable laws, regulations and policies associated with those complaints to identify the appropriate violation(s) to investigate
  • Understanding and interpreting governance, collective agreements, legislation (i.e. Ontario Human Rights Code, Canadian Human Rights Act, Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, etc.), and labour and employment law
  • Developing an investigation plan and researching background information related to the complainant, respondent, witnesses, and other related parties
  • Scheduling appointments and interviewing witnesses while protecting the integrity and privacy of the investigation
  • Evaluating information to determine findings of factual information and credibility of the participants
  • Conducting a thorough analysis of the information to determine whether the complaint is substantiated
  • Documenting the findings of the investigation process by maintaining detailed accurate records and notes and preparing an investigation report

As an independent contractor on our roster, you have the flexibility to build your own project schedule. Roster members commit to work on a project-by-project basis. Project opportunities vary in length from a few weeks to a few months. Compensation is on an hourly basis, at a competitive rate.

Candidates should have the ability and willingness to periodically travel, and work evenings and weekends as duties require.

About the team

Our Workplace Culture and Conduct Investigations team supports our clients with solutions and recommendations, from crisis onset through investigation, data gathering and analysis, loss quantification, and long-term improvement. Enough about us, let's talk about you

You are someone with:

  • Outstanding problem-solving, interview, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and executing investigations, with the ability to remain impartial and neutral throughout the investigative process and in highly emotional situations.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and judgment with demonstrated ability to analyze and apply legal and policy standards to fact patterns.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a reputation for being both self-driven and resourceful.
